Estate in the Bahamas - The Perfect Place To Make Your Second
Home
The Bahamas, is perfectly located--less than 100 miles off the
coast of Florida. Only a few hours by ship or twenty minutes by
plane, the Bahamas serves as the perfect location to build your
second home, and under new legislation it is easy for foreigners
to become permanent Bahamian residents.
Since The
International Persons Landholding Act became effective in 1993,
it has also become easy for non-Bahamians to acquire a home. It
should be noted that there is no Capitol Gains tax in the Bahamas.
Owners who
purchase a property for $500,000 or more are entitled to apply
for a Permanant Residence Permit.
Closing
Costs
Buyers are responsible for fees associated with the closing
of their property. The Bahamian government levies a Stamp Tax
of 10% of the real estate purchase price. This tax can be split
between the seller and buyer, as part of negotiations. Thereafter,
one pays the annual property tax of 1% on the market value of
the property.
